Case Studies of Urban Freeways for The I-81 Challenge
This report examines the challenges faced by other cities and regions with urban freeways. Eleven completed projects and eight projects in the planning or design stage are included in the report. Among the completed projects, five outcomes were common: reconstruction/new construction, burying, depressing, relocating, or removing the highway. The report also reviewed existing at-grade and elevated highways in the planning and design stages.
